James Powell, P.Eng.

As Product Manager, Communications, James Powell provides technical expertise and leadership on industrial communications for Siemens Milltronics level measurement instrumentation.

He has extensive knowledge of common industrial networks and in depth experience with protocols including: PROFIBUS, Modbus, DeviceNet, Allen Bradley Remote I/O, Ethernet, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, SNP, GENIUS, and HART. He has more than 15 years experience in application design and research, as well as many years of field experience. He has published articles in ISA technical papers, Verfahrens Technik, Electro Industria, PROFIBUS Newletter, PROFIBUS Interface Center newsletter, and Control Engineering newsletter. He is an active member of ISA both as a presenter (Expo 2004, Expo 2005) and reviewer (Expos 2004, Expo 2005). He is an active member of PROFIBUS International and Fieldbus Foundations serving as a reviewer for PROFIBUS working group 7 and a member of the Foundation Fieldbus Transducer Block Standard committee.

He hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Engineering, Electrical Control and Communications Option from Queen's University, Kingston , Ontario (1987) and holds the Professional Engineer designation from the Professional Engineers of Ontario. James is located at the Siemens Milltronics factory headquarters in Peterborough , Ontario Canada .
