As a user in the Water Industry we were very pleased that a conference was av
ailable on this subject and it provided us with the necessary stimulus to decide to adopt Profibus technology more widely from now on. The event provided a good balance between academic and practical subjects, and between workshops or lectures. There was a good mix of suppliers and users also. The venue was very impressive as well as within easy travelling time for most UK attendees. We were impressed by the number of international visitors and speakers, as well as their fluency in English. Also the number of exhibitors gave confidence to users that Profibus is being widely supported, and that co-operation exists to evolve standards and products which will be inter-operable.
The entertainment was excellent and very memorable too.
The only change I would suggest is that when calling for papers you publish a timetable of dates for submissions of paper and powerpoint presentation.
On a personal note thanks for looking after us so well, we had a great time and I'm just sorry I forgot to bring a camera! We really look forward to next years event.

The content of the various presentations was all of great interest to me. We manufacture control systems for the refrigeration and power generation industries, and for me as a software engineer, Profinet in particular holds much promise. I am also interested in the Certified Profibus Engineer course at Manchester.

Congratulations and thank you for having organised such a great event on behalf of Profibus UK. Everyone I spoke to about the event, seminar content and chosen venue were complementary about all aspects of the proceedings.
It was remarked that this event had a similar friendly atmosphere to that of the Fieldcomms show that worked so successfully at Hinkley in the late 1990's.
Personally I was very happy with both the number of product enquiries that Graham Oliver and I received at the Burkert stand and also the networking opportunities that presented themselves. Burkert should certainly be there next year.

It was an interesting event - the venue was certainly excellent - my only regret was missing the Medieval Feast which I heard was very enjoyable.
As for next year I'm not sure it would be appropriate for HSE to contribute again so soon.
Maybe we could contribute again in a couple of years time?

Our installations of Profibus were designed & installed by two organisations as part of a complete control system replacement and it's really only as a consequence of attending the 2005 conference that we realised how many errors were made by these people.
As we made the mistake of not researching the do's & don'ts with Profibus prior to letting contracts we wrongly assumed that it's OK to install to the same standards as e.g. BS5308 cables that we use for analogue signals - we now know different.
Therefore due the above I agree that practical demonstrations are good for both total novices and those with limited experience on Profibus.
